MACC detains enforcement officer over RM5,000 bribe

KOTA KINABALU: A 42-year-old enforcement officer has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly receiving a RM5,000 bribe to challenge an identification card.

The man was apprehended by Sandakan MACC on the district department workplace at 9.30am on Wednesday (June 15) when he was requested to come back in to offer his assertion.

The suspect is believed to have solicited and acquired RM5,000 gratification from a person as fee to deal with the issuance of a Malaysian identification card.

Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest and mentioned the person is being held to facilitate investigations underneath Section 16(a)(B) (for soliciting gratification as an officer for a public physique) and Section 17(a) (accepting gratification by an agent) of the MACC Act 2009.

“The suspect has been launched underneath MACC bail and is anticipated to be charged on the Sandakan particular corruption courtroom on the finish of this month,” he mentioned.
