MACC nabs three Indian nationals for attempting to bribe cop in Johor

JOHOR BARU: Three Indian nationals were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) here for allegedly trying to bribe a policeman.

According to the MACC, one of the suspects tried to bribe the policeman with RM2,900 as an inducement not to take action against them for flouting Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) during a gathering.

The suspects, in their 30s and 40s, were arrested around 3.30pm at the Johor MACC office on Saturday (Sept 4).

The case is being investigated under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2019, which is punishable with a fine of five times the bribe amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher, and a maximum jail term of 20 years.

When contacted, Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the arrest.
