IPOH: Only 12 people are allowed to perform prayers in mosques and surau in Perak, says Datuk Seri Mohd Annuar Zaini.

In a statement, the Perak Islamic Religion and Malay Custom Council president said the rule would start on Tuesday (June 1).

“Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah has allowed the rule to be implemented according to the type of prayers performed at these premises.

“For Friday and fardhu prayers, these 12 individuals include the imam and mosques or surau officers,” he said on Monday (May 31).

Mohd Annuar added for funeral prayers, all rules and advice from hospitals or medical officers must be followed.

“The place to perform the funeral prayers depends on the family members. It can be done in their homes, surau or mosques. However, the maximum congregation is also limited to 12 people, including the imam.

“Any social activities scheduled at the mosques and surau must be postponed and all management matters will be done online,” he said.

“Sultan Nazrin hopes that everyone will be responsible for breaking the chain of Covid-19 infection.

“He also hopes the public will sympathise with frontliners, especially in the medical sector who are battling the virus,” he said.
