MELAKA: A group of motorcycle thieves thought they could get away with keeping stolen parts in a traditional wooden house in a village here.

However, the police bust their activities when they discovered the stolen items.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Afzanizar Ahmad said the thieves turned the traditional kampung house in Tanjung Kling here for their criminal activities.

“My men found dozens of various cannibalised motorcycle parts at the back of the house,” he said yesterday.

He said the parts were found scattered all around the back portion of the house.

“The thieves probably thought that they would get away by storing the stolen parts in a village house,” he added.

Three men aged between 23 and 43 were detained.

“We believe they are part of an organised motorcycle theft gang responsible for a spate of thefts reported in the state for the past few months.

“The three were also tested positive for drugs,” he said.

ACP Afzanizar said the stolen parts were believed to be sold to individuals or motorcycle owners below the market price, adding that police were searching for other members of the syndicate as well as those who bought the stolen items.
