John McDonnell, who was shadow chancellor below former Labour chief Jeremy Corbyn, advised LBC he was “stunned and shocked”, including: “I’m an ideal believer within the powers of conversion, however I believe even this one would have strained the generosity of spirit of John the Baptist, fairly truthfully.”
