SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan Umno wants relations between the supreme council and MPs “harmonised” for the sake of the party and the country.

Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan (pic), who is state liaison committee chief, also said it endorsed the supreme council decision on Aug 3 to retract the support of its MPs for the present Perikatan Nasional government.

“We fully support the decision. We would also like to reiterate our unwavering loyalty to the King which is in line with our party constitution, to uphold the state and Federal Constitutions and the constitutional monarchy system,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Aug 10).

Mohamad, the party’s deputy president, also expressed hope that the rakyat would give Umno the mandate to emerge victorious in the next general election.

After an emergency supreme council meeting on Aug 3, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had announced the party’s decision to withdraw support for the Perikatan government and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as Prime Minister.

The government, he said, had clearly gone against the King’s decree and in fact, undermined His Majesty, who has decreed multiple times for all Emergency Ordinances to be debated and annulled before Aug 1, not September, in line with Article 150(3) of the Federal Constitution.
