PETALING JAYA: The upcoming special Parliament meeting that will run for five days from July 26 onwards will allocate a day each to focus on the five core issues that will be tabled in the House, according to the order of business.

The order of business, shared by a source, said that the special meeting from July 26 will be about ministries briefing MPs about the government’s measures in the pandemic.

It is unclear if MPs will be allowed to debate on the five core issues that will be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat when it convenes.

The leaked summary of the order of business sighted by The Star showed that the first day of the special meeting on July 26 will centre on the National Recovery Plan that will be tabled by the Prime Minister.

The second day of the special meeting will be about the government’s actions in addressing the Covid-19 pandemic, which will be presented by the Health Ministry.

On July 28, the Science, Innovation and Technology will brief MPs about the national vaccination plan and on July 29, the Finance ministry will brief MPs about economic stimulus packages to aid businesses nationwide.

On Aug 2, which is the last day of the five-day special meeting, the Prime Minister will brief MPs about the implementation of the Emergency.

Meanwhile, in a statement Thursday (July 15), Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun said Parliament secretary Dr Nizam Mydin Bacha Mydin will be issuing official notices to all MPs on Thursday (July 15) to notify them about the July 26 special sitting.

An order of business from the Parliament secretariat was also posted by Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh on Twitter Thursday (July 15).

The upcoming Parliament meeting will run for a special five-day meeting beginning July 26, 15 days beginning Sept 6 and 32 days beginning Oct 25.

Dewan Rakyat proceedings will be closely watched by the public as Perikatan Nasional has a slim majority of 115 MPs with Barisan Nasional accounting for 42 MPs.

There were concerns about Perikatan’s Parliamentary majority, after Umno announced its withdrawal of support for Muhyiddin as Prime Minister recently.
