PETALING JAYA: After a two-year hiatus from worldwide championships, the Malaysian armwrestling crew is raring to fly the Jalur Gemilang excessive once more on the Asian Armwrestling Championships this weekend.
With 85 armwrestlers in each genders starting from the light-weight to tremendous heavyweight classes, the crew is hopeful of clinching varied golds and the coveted title of general champions.
The Asian Championships shall be held on June 18 and 19 at Paradigm Mall, Petaling Jaya.
Twelve nations together with Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Iran and South Korea have confirmed their participation.
Malaysia Armwrestling Federation president Mohd Zil Fadli mentioned there have been massive expectations for putting first for many classes.
“Although there are challenges from India, Singapore and South Korea, we are positive that we can dominate the lightweight and heavyweight categories.
“Our national champions of Safuan Asif, Joffey Jolly and Calveen Petrus will lead the challenges in these categories,” he mentioned, including that the contingent was the most important ever despatched for the championships.
Mohd Zil additionally mentioned that it was a welcome reduction to the armwrestler fraternity and followers to have competitions once more after two years, particularly in Malaysia.
“Ultimately, the goal is to have these competitions at the upcoming Sukma and SEA Games scheduled to be held in 2025 and 2027 respectively,” he mentioned on Friday (June 17).
Malaysian crew captain and coach Calveen Petrus mentioned he hoped for everybody to carry out effectively on the championships.
“This is our homegrown and our performance can hopefully be boosted by support from both fans and onlookers alike.
“It is also encouraging to see so many lesser-known talents being able to seize the opportunity and make our country proud,” mentioned Calveen who can also be the favorite for being the person general champion.
