KUANTAN: The Pahang Mentri Besar is calling for action to be taken against a Federal minister for alleged insolence towards the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said he considered it rude for Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin to utter inappropriate words against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in a television programme.
“The utterance of these words from a member of the Cabinet of the Federal Government is certainly something that should not be taken lightly, let alone a precedent that cannot be allowed to be repeated.
“Therefore, appropriate action must follow in order to uphold the principles of Loyalty to the King and Country, as well as Decency and Morality as enshrined in the Rukun Negara,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Aug 5).
Zuraida reportedly defended the government’s decision to revoke the Emergency Ordinances during an interview on Astro Awani’s Consider This show.
She said there should not have been any kind of public statement from Istana Negara, as it was “not proper in this constitutional monarchy system”.
On another matter, Wan Rosdy, who is the Pahang Umno liaison committee chairman, said the chapter supported party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s statement on Umno’s stance in the current political crisis.
Ahmad Zahid had challenged the government to call for a special Parliament sitting immediately to prove that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin still had majority support.
He alleged that Muhyiddin’s claim that the government still had the majority was not true.
On Tuesday (Aug 3), Ahmad Zahid announced that 11 Umno MPs had retracted their support for the Perikatan Nasional government and Muhyiddin as Prime Minister, and that statutory declarations from the lawmakers had been sent to the King.
Following an audience with the King, Muhyiddin said in a televised address on Wednesday (Aug 4) he would not resign but instead would table a motion of confidence to determine the legitimacy of his position in the Dewan Rakyat in September.
Wan Rosdy said Pahang Umno urged the party leadership and members at various levels to continue to support the decision to withdraw support, which was in line with decisions made at the recent general assembly in March.
“At the same time, our focus should be on addressing the welfare of the people, who are still affected by Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
