MOSCOW (Reuters) – A Russian naval vessel chased away a U.S. submarine in Russian waters within the Pacific after the submarine ignored a Russian order to floor, Interfax information company cited the defence ministry as saying on Saturday.
The Russian ministry referred to as within the U.S. defence attache after complaining that the submarine had entered its waters, the RIA information company reported. Tensions between Moscow and Washington are already excessive over a Russian navy buildup close to Ukraine.
The submarine was noticed close to the Kuril islands early on Saturday as Russia was conducting naval workout routines with its Pacific Fleet and it was ordered to floor instantly, the Russian ministry was quoted as saying.
It mentioned the order was ignored by the U.S. submarine’s crew, main the crew of Russia’s Marshal Shaposhnikov frigate to make use of unspecified “corresponding means” to make the vessel go away.
“The U.S. submarine … left Russian territorial waters at most pace,” the defence ministry was quoted as saying.
There was no instant remark from the United States.
Russia’s defence minister spoke by telephone along with his U.S. counterpart on Saturday because the United States and different Western nations warned that conflict in Ukraine may ignite at any second. U.S. President Joe Biden and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin began a name later within the day.
