Sarawak accepts Bank Negara decision to not approve digital bank licence for state

KUCHING: Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg stated he accepts

Bank Negara Malaysia’s decision not to approve the state’s utility for a digital bank licence.

He stated the state would not reapply for the licence.

“I feel it needs to be okay, not an issue. After all we have already got S Pay Global,” he advised the media after attending the open home ceremony of the Sarawak Yang diPertua Negeri Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud and his spouse Toh Puan Ragad Kurdi Taib on the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching right here Monday (May 2).

S Pay Global is a monetary expertise platform developed by the state.

The Sarawak entity, which failed to get the digital bank licence, was a consortium comprising Revenue Group and Kenangan Investment Bank Bhd.

On April 29, Bank Negara introduced that solely 5 bidders had received the digital bank licences, with three consortiums – Boost Holding Sdn Bhd and RHB Bank; GXS Bank Pte Ltd and Kuok Brothers Sdn Bhd; and Sea Ltd and YTL Digital Capital Sdn Bhd – awarded the licences beneath the Financial Services Act (FSA) 2013.

Two different consortiums – one comprising Aeon Financial Service, Aeon Credit Service Bhd, and MoneyLion Inc; and the opposite led by KAF Investment Bank – have been awarded the licences beneath the Islamic Financial Services Act 2013. – Bernama
