Saudi Arabia launched its first international film festival on Monday (Dec 6) within the nation’s western coastal metropolis of Jeddah.

“The inaugural session of the Red Sea International Film Festival began in the present day from the historic metropolis of Jeddah,” the festival’s administration stated on Twitter, in line with Anadolu Agency.

In a press release Nov 9, the organisers stated the film festival can be held from Dec 6 to fifteen on the japanese coast of the Red Sea in Jeddah, which is classed as a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

It additionally stated that film stars, administrators, media professionals and film trade professionals from all around the world would attend the inaugural ceremony.

Speaking on the inaugural session, Mohammed Al-Turki, chairman of the Red Sea International Film Festival Committee, expressed his delight on the commencing of the festival.

“This is the second we’ve been ready for for a very long time,” Al-Turki stated.

The festival programme consists of 138 lengthy and quick movies from 67 international locations in 34 languages, together with 25 world premieres, 48 ​​Arab premieres and 17 premieres within the Gulf area, in line with the organisers.

The launch of the primary international film festival comes greater than three years after the dominion opened its first cinema in early April 2018, a transfer that ended a 35-year ban on the cinema, it added.
