KUALA LUMPUR: Activist Sarah Irdina Mohamad Arif was detained in accordance with the Lockup Rules 1953, says Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai (pic).
Beh said the 20-year-old activist was detained under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.
“She was detained and placed at the Central Lockup in Jinjang at about 7pm on July 29.
“Her detention at the lockup was in accordance with the Lockup Rules 1953 and IGP’s Standing Orders,” he said when contacted on Monday (Aug 2).
ACP Beh was commenting on an article in a news portal that Sarah Irdina was detained in connection with the Twitter account of youth-led collective MISI: Solidariti.
In the article, she claimed she was forced to strip naked at the detention centre.
Before being put in the lockup, each detainee will be brought to a room where they will be inspected, ACP Beh said.
“For this case, a female officer performed the inspection to ensure there was no physical injury and no illegal items were brought into the lockup.
“Each detainee will then be required to change into the purple lockup attire.
“The changing of clothes is done in a room alone, away from the view of others,” he said, adding that lockup procedures were fully adhered to during Sara Irdina’s detention.
“At the lockup where she was held, only women personnel and detainees were present.
“Men are not allowed to enter the female detention area,” he added.
ACP Beh said Sarah Irdina was released on police bail at about 12.30am on July 30.
“We advise the public not to spread unverified information that can lead to public distress,” he added.
