Shafie leaves after hour-long audience with King

PETALING JAYA: After an hour-long audience with the King, Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal has left Istana Negara.

He left from Gate 2 in a black Range Rover at 4.20pm.

He had earlier arrived at 3.10pm and managed to evade reporters who staked out outside Gate 2 of the Istana Negara since early Thursday (June 10) morning.

Dozens of press members had staked out near Gate 2 at the Istana Negara since 10am this morning, as political leaders were set to meet with the King to deliberate the current political landscape and the Covid-19 pandemic.

It was understood that Shafie had been in Kuala Lumpur since Wednesday (June 9) for his scheduled audience with the King on Thursday.

He did not address the press outside of Gate 2 due to ongoing restrictions on Covid-19.

Earlier, PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man at around 10.20am in a black Toyota sports utility vehicle.

He was representing party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, who could not make it due to illness.

Tuan Ibrahim also left after about an hour of his arrival without speaking to the press.

Later on, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong arrived at 12pm and left around 12.50pm after his audience with the King.

Meanwhile, Umno president Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi is expected to meet the King at 2.30pm on Friday (June 11).

On Monday (June 14), the King is scheduled to have an audience with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders in a teleconference.

The King is also set to chair a special meeting involving the Malay Rulers next Wednesday (June 16) to discuss efforts to combat Covid-19 during the Emergency period.

Developments at the Palace are being closely monitored by the press and observers alike, as speculation is rife that a new political landscape could emerge once the Emergency Proclamation expires on Aug 1.
