PETALING JAYA: Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) has known as on Singapore to halt the execution of Kalwant Singh.
Kalwant was convicted and sentenced to loss of life on Oct 24, 2013, for allegedly trafficking in 60.15g of diamorphine.
The 32-year-old Malaysian is scheduled to be hanged on July 7.
LFL director Zaid Malek described the loss of life penalty as an “archaic and brutal type of punishment”.
“It doesn’t deter critical crime; it’s irreversible and the last word denial of human rights.
“Continuing to dangle drug mules while figuring out full nicely that drug mules are simply replaceable by drug kingpins exhibits that Singapore prefers the phantasm of taking motion as an alternative of truly resolving illicit drug commerce within the area,” he stated in an announcement on Thursday (June 30).
