TUNIS (Reuters) – The speaker of Tunisia’s suspended parliament, Rached Ghannouchi, mentioned he had requested President Kais Saied in a letter to disclose the whereabouts and situation of Ennahda occasion official Noureddine Bhairi, who was arrested on Friday.
Members of the average Islamist occasion mentioned Bhairi had been ill, and that they’d obtained data that he had not been allowed to take his common treatment since his arrest.
Pictures and movies printed by Ennahda members and supporters on Facebook confirmed individuals gathering in entrance of the hospital in Bizerte, saying Bhairi had been taken there.
The Interior Ministry has not confirmed Bhairi’s arrest, saying solely that two unnamed individuals have been positioned beneath home arrest to guard nationwide safety.
No officers in Saied’s administration have been instantly obtainable to remark.
Ennahda, which has accused Saied of a coup for suspending parliament in July and accumulating govt powers, mentioned plainclothes brokers had seized Bhairi on Friday morning.
Since Saied’s intervention, a number of senior politicians and enterprise leaders have been detained or prosecuted, many of them on costs of corruption or defamation.
Rights teams have criticised some of these arrests and the use of navy courts to listen to instances.
Saied has promised to uphold the rights and freedoms received in Tunisia’s 2011 revolution, which ushered in democracy and triggered “Arab Spring” uprisings throughout the area.
