SPM 2021: Nearly 25,000 candidates did not sit for exams, says Education Ministry

PUTRAJAYA: Almost 25,000 SPM 2021 candidates did not sit for the exams.

While a complete of 407,097 candidates registered for the exams, solely 382,165 sat for it, Education director-general Datuk Nor Zamani Abdol Hamid revealed in the course of the SPM 2021 outcomes announcement.

Explaining the state of affairs, Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin mentioned most of those candidates had been non-public candidates.

“This is among the challenges we face and we are analysing the data and trends to see if it is different from the previous years.

“There are various reasons, from personal and family matters to candidates choosing to work. And most of them are private candidates.

“For school candidates, there are those who decide not to take the exams (after registering for it) despite their teachers visiting their homes and making calls to encourage them to take the exam,” he mentioned after visiting SMK Putrajaya Presint 18 (1) at the side of the discharge of the SPM 2021 outcomes on Thursday (June 16).

Radzi mentioned on the college stage, there are numerous interventions in place to encourage college students to sit for the SPM exams.
