BAMAKO (Reuters) – Four soldiers had been killed and a dozen extra severely injured when their patrol was ambushed by suspected militants in western Mali, the army mentioned in an announcement on Thursday.

The assault occurred late in the afternoon on Wednesday close to the city of Nara, round 30 km (19 miles) south of border with Mauritania.

“A unit in the Nara space was the goal of a fancy assault combining IEDs and heavy weapons,” the assertion mentioned, including that the loss of life toll was provisional.

No group has but claimed accountability for the ambush.

Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso are battling an Islamist insurgency that has flourished throughout Africa’s Sahel area, killing hundreds and displacing tens of millions regardless of a nine-year effort by worldwide forces to defeat it.
