(Reuters) – An autographed Serena Williams rookie card printed in 2003 has change into the costliest girls’s sports activities card after fetching $44,280 at public sale final weekend, New Jersey-based Goldin Auctions mentioned.

The earlier report was $34,440 for a rookie card of former U.S. soccer participant Mia Hamm bought in June.

ESPN reported the Williams card was purchased by alternative-asset buying and selling platform Alt on behalf of a personal shopper.

“Individuals are accepting girls’s buying and selling playing cards as collectables,” ESPN quoted Goldin Auctions founder Ken Goldin as saying.

The 40-year-old Williams, who continues to be looking a record-equalling twenty fourth Grand Slam title, has not competed since limping out of her first-round match at Wimbledon in August.
