U.S. citizen killed in Ukraine, Blinken says

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday mentioned a U.S. citizen was killed in Ukraine amid the continued Russian invasion.

“I can verify that an American citizen was killed. I haven’t got any extra particulars for you than that,” Blinken informed reporters in a press briefing.

Blinken’s affirmation got here after police in the Ukrainian metropolis of Chernihiv mentioned earlier on Thursday that an American was amongst these killed by a Russian shelling.

Viacheslav Chaus, governor of the area centered on the front-line metropolis of Chernihiv, mentioned 53 civilians had been killed there in the previous 24 hours. The toll couldn’t be independently verified. Russia denies focusing on civilians.

Russia has assaulted Ukraine from 4 instructions, sending two columns towards Kyiv from the northwest and northeast, pushing in from the east close to the second largest metropolis Kharkiv, and spreading in the south from Crimea.
