KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno wants its grassroots to strengthen the party machinery and not look for positions within party branches at their annual meetings which starts on Friday (Oct 15).
Sabah Umno chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said that the strength of the party in Sabah was from its grassroots and they must focus to prepare for the next general election.
“We must set aside the question of holding positions in the division or on becoming a candidate in the next general election.
“It is important that we strengthen the party machinery to ensure Umno’s victory in the next election,” he said in a statement, adding that Umno branch meetings will be held from Friday until Nov 30.
Bung, who was Deputy Chief Minister, said that the branch meetings should focus on improving the party in line with the needs of the people.
Bung said that Umno leaders and members should continue to build and strengthen the party machinery.
He also advised all party members to ensure that branch meetings proceed smoothly and they should comply with standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Sabah Umno through Sabah Barisan Nasional is part of the 10-party coalition under the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah led state government of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajij Noor, who is also Sabah Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman.
