KUALA LUMPUR: Police have seized 72 exotic birds following a joint operation with the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan).

Federal Internal Security and Public Order Department director Comm Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali stated a crew from his division’s Intelligence and Special Investigations Division launched a collection of raids along with Perhilitan the place they seized 72 white-rumped shama birds worth almost RM700,000.

“On May 31, the raiding groups performed three raids at Bukit Merah, Perak and arrested a 44-year-old man and seized the birds in addition to 47 fowl cages worth RM694,500.

“The subsequent day, a raid was performed at Gerik, Perak the place two males aged 33 and 37 have been detained,” he stated in a press release on Thursday (June 2).

He stated in addition they seized 4 extra birds, three shotguns, a pistol, 5 crossbows, two home-made shotguns, 25 shotgun rounds, and a bag containing 300g of ketum leaves.

“All the suspects have been remanded to assist with additional investigations.

“We imagine these arrests solely make up a small variety of folks actively concerned in looking protected animals,” he stated, urging these concerned to stop their actions instantly.

Comm Hazani stated the police wouldn’t compromise, and would hunt them down.
