Cops recapture three out of four detainees who escaped from quarantine centre

KOTA KINABALU: Three out of four police detainees, who are Covid-19 positive, have been rearrested less than a day after they escaped from a quarantine centre.

The three, aged between 19 and 27, were nabbed at about 5.45pm Sunday (Aug 1) at Taman Wijayah, Menggatal, some 20km from where they escaped.

Another detainee, aged 24, is still at large.

Penampang OCPD Deputy Supt Mohd Haris Ibrahim said they managed to recapture them after a massive manhunt, with help from Kota Kinabalu and Menggatal policemen.

The suspects were missing from their beds when police officials did their rounds at about 3.30am.

The four who were being detained for various offences including drug abuse, possessing stolen items and causing hurt.

They were transferred to the quarantine centre in phases from July 24.

They were placed at the state Native Court Training Institute with police supervision after testing positive for Covid-19.
