FBM KLCI ends at intraday high

KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI advanced on Tuesday, in line with the performance of its regional peers following the overnight gains on Wall Street.

At closing, the 30-stock index rose six points, or 0.38% to 1,577.82, its intraday high. The index opened 2.82 points lower at 1,569.00 this morning.

Turnover was 6.33 billion shares valued at RM3.84bil. There were 582 gainers, 464 losers and 413 counters unchanged.

In today’s session, 20 of KLCI-component stocks ended higher, eight ended lower and two counters closed unchanged.

Hong Leong Financial Group rose 30 sen to RM17, Kuala Lumpur Kepong added 22 sen to RM22.50, Petronas Gas gained 12 sen to RM15.98 and Digi rose 12 sen to RM4.27.

Maybank fell one sen to RM8.33, Public Bank gained two sen to RM18.82 and CIMB shed one sen to RM4.21.

All three index-linked glove stocks slid. Hartalega lost 25 sen to RM9.23, Top Glove shed six sen to RM5.20 and Supermax fell four sen to RM4.45.

On the broader market, MPI jumped 52 sen to RM37.68, Carlsberg rose 44 sen to RM21.60 and Widetech advanced 44 sen to RM3.21.

BLD Plantation fell 47 sen to RM9.01, Greatech Technology lost 17 sen to RM5.25 and Kumpulan H&L High-Tech declined 15 sen to RM2.09.

Meanwhile, US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) Crude Oil fell 41 cents to US$65.64 and Brent declined 38 cents to US$68.08.

Among the key regional markets,

Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 0.67% to 28,553.98;

South Korea’s Kospi advanced 0.86% to 3,171.32;

CSI 300 jumped 3.16% to 5,318.48;

Shanghai’s Composite Index gained 2.4% to 3,581.34;

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index advanced 1.75% to 28,910.86;

Taiwan’s Taiex added 1.58% to 16,595.67 and

Singapore’s Straits Times Index climbed 0.72% to 3,146.07.
