(Reuters) – Everton condemned supporters for focusing on a Chelsea player with homophobic chants throughout Thursday’s 1-1 Premier League at Stamford Bridge.

“Such behaviour is unacceptable and doesn’t characterize the values of our membership or our wider fanbase,” the Merseyside membership stated in a press release.

“We promote and have fun the range and inclusivity inside our membership, our recreation and our neighborhood. We count on fans to replicate these values by refraining from any discriminatory chanting sooner or later.”

In August, Liverpool condemned fans for homophobic chants aimed at Scotland midfielder Billy Gilmour, who’s on mortgage at Norwich City from Chelsea.
