BATU PAHAT: The WiFi project and free Internet initiative, which is the first in Malaysia to use the Television White Space (TVWS) know-how, will present high-speed connectivity to college students and villagers residing in rural areas, says Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad.

The Higher Education Minister mentioned the initiative, which was first launched in Parit Sulong, Johor on Saturday (March 5), was a joint initiative between UiTM holdings and a strategic associate.

“This initiative will profit college students and villagers residing in rural areas who want high-speed Internet for day by day actions similar to home-based educating and studying (PdPR), companies and the Internet-of-Things (IoT).

“By providing Wifi and free Internet utilizing the TVWS know-how at chosen localities, the Jaringan Digital Negara (Jendela) plan will be applied sooner,” mentioned Noraini when launching the initiative on the Seri Suling Industrial Park in Parit Sulong on Saturday (March 5).

The TVWS know-how refers to unused gaps between energetic TV channels in the VHF and UHF spectrum bands that may be transformed into high-speed Internet infrastructure.

Also current through the launch on Saturday (March 5) was UiTM vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Roziah Mohd Janor, UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd chairman Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar, AxiCom Sdn Bhd chairman Endie Syazlie Akbar, Microsoft Malaysia public sector group basic supervisor Sheikh Manzoor Ghani, and Allo Technology Sdn Bhd CEO Mahzan Miskam.

Commenting additional, Noraini mentioned the newly launched initiative will give locals Internet protection in rural areas by means of the TVWS know-how at a small price, in contrast to different present infrastructures.

“Developing an Internet communication system requires excessive price and dedication. However, the willpower to present one of the best ICT services for all walks of life in city and rural communities, overcomes this.

“Therefore, the Higher Education Ministry is working strategically with company our bodies and subsidiaries of public universities similar to UiTM Holdings to present digital platforms and free web networks, particularly for the residents of Parit Sulong and its surrounding areas,” she mentioned.
