ZAPORIZHZHIA, Ukraine (Reuters) – A big convoy of automobiles and vans carrying refugees from the ruins of Mariupol arrived within the Ukrainian-controlled metropolis of Zaporizhzhia on Saturday after ready days for Russian troops to permit them to depart.
Mariupol, now principally Russian-controlled, has been flattened throughout the 80-day-old battle. Ukraine has progressively been evacuating civilians from the devastated metropolis for greater than two months.
Refugees first needed to get out of Mariupol after which one way or the other make their approach to Berdyansk – some 80 km additional west alongside the coast – and different settlements earlier than the 200 km drive northwest to Zaporizhzhia.
