LRT train mishap: Malaysians express concern, wish quick recovery for victims

PETALING JAYA: Many Malaysians are shocked by the collision between two trains in a tunnel here along the Kelana Jaya LRT line on Monday night (May 24).

On social media, many expressed concern and hoped that those involved in the accident would recover soon.

Forty-seven passengers were severely hurt, while 166 others suffered minor injuries.

Philip Wong commented on Facebook that he was in another train when the accident occurred.

” was on the other train going to KLCC, while my friend was in the KLCC station waiting to get in with me… suddenly he heard (a) loud crash…

“(Looks like it is) an accident!” he wrote.

“Whoever went in, I pray for all of you for quick recovery (sic).”

Thogai Letchumy Malayandy wrote: “Hope all the victims are safe – sad and shocked to see their condition, some of them badly injured. Praying for their recovery.”

Meanwhile, Reena Zetie was shocked that such a collision had occurred.

“Since its inception in 1997, this is the first (time it) ever happened. Very unfortunate for passengers travelling in the midst of the pandemic,” she added.

Another Facebook user, Parmajitkaur Mahinder Singh, questioned how the incident could have happened.

“Hope (and) pray that all on those trains are safe… This is really unfortunate,” she said.

On Twitter, user @AllySandra93 said with the movement control order (MCO) being tightened beginning Tuesday (May25), it was sad that some of the rakyat have to face this situation.

“I pity the passengers involved in the accident. Hopefully the government will help the victims,” she tweeted.

Some called on the authorities to look into the cause of the accident.

Radzlan Ahmad Suhaimi noted that “heads will roll” as this is a question of safety and many were injured in the incident.

“Someone has got to be accountable,” he added.
