KUALA LUMPUR: Those working in essential services are given until tomorrow to obtain new authorisation letters from the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti).
In the meantime, such workers can provide letters from their respective companies, old Miti letters or letters from relevant ministries when passing roadblocks, said Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (Operations) SAC MV Srikumar M Nair.“We are giving them leeway for the first three days of the total lockdown. However, after June 3, they must provide the relevant letters,” he told The Star.
He reminded the public to adhere to Covid-19 standard operating procedure as stern action will be taken against the violators.
“We will take stern action on those who fail to adhere to the SOP,” he added.
Separately, Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Zainal Abdullah also said such workers could use their respective company’s letters when stopped at roadblocks during the first three days of the total lockdown.
“We understand that it takes time to obtain the letter as Miti is in the midst of issuing them,” he said after inspecting a government office at Jalan Tun Razak yesterday.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid, at a press conference at the district police headquarters yesterday, said many were currently still using the old letter.
“Some have said the new ones are still pending while others said that they had just applied the night before.
“Under the orders of the state police chief, we will allow the use of the old letters until June 3.
“We have also advised them to go through their employers to apply for the new Miti letter or letter of authorisation from the respective ministry,” he said.
Meanwhile on total lockdown operations in Dang Wangi, ACP Mohamad Zainal said mobile roadblocks would be set up in the Dang Wangi area during the total lockdown.
“Two teams will be deployed to conduct the mobile roadblocks within the district.
“We will not have static roadblocks, instead we will conduct mobile roadblocks and the locations will change depending on the days and needs.
“We will also conduct snap checks on the people,” he said.
Dang Wangi police will also deploy 21 compliance operation teams to ensure that people adhere to Covid-19 SOP.
On the government office inspected, ACP Mohamad Zainal said the management complied with the ruling that only 20% of the workforce could operate from the office.
“On the first day of the total lockdown, most offices and businesses complied with the SOP of limiting its number of personnel.
“Only essential services are allowed to operate during this period,” he said.
The police would check on complaints of non-compliance, he said.
