PETALING JAYA: The majority of the Umno supreme council members are in favour of withdrawing support for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the Prime Minister but they do not want to do it now, says Umno election director Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.

Tajuddin had verified an audio clip circulating on social media, where Tajuddin was heard being in disagreement with other party leaders.

Tajuddin confirmed to news portal Free Malaysia Today that the audio was a recording was of a speech he made during last week’s Umno supreme council meeting.

In the recording, Tajuddin told Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi that he had supported Ahmad Zahid’s decisions the whole time, but that “this time, he begged to differ”.

Tajuddin added that the recent decision to withdraw support differed from the decision made during the party’s general assembly in March, which was to was to reject DAP, PKR and Bersatu.

Tajuddin also noted that Umno was currently not ready to head into a general election.

“Do you know the status of our constituency? Are you ready to face the elections? I am telling you, you need one more year to strengthen your election machinery, ” he said.

Tajuddin then spoke about the current economic and health crisis in the country to which he said: “Someone said just now if we fail after taking over, it will be worse.”

In the 15-minute audio clip, Tajuddin also said that the present government no longer belongs to Muhyiddin, instead, it belongs to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob who now has a chance to show the people that Umno works for them.
