CAIRO (Reuters): Israel carried out an air strike on the Syrian port of Latakia on Tuesday (Dec 7), causing a fire in a container storage space that was later extinguished, Syrian state media reported.
An Israeli army spokesperson declined to touch upon the reviews. The Syrian reviews didn’t point out any casualties.
Israel has mounted frequent assaults in opposition to what it has described as Iranian targets in Syria, the place Tehran-backed forces together with Lebanon’s Hezbollah have deployed over the past decade to assist President Bashar al-Assad in Syria’s conflict.
Citing a army supply, state information company SANA mentioned Israel had mounted an “aerial aggression” at 1.23am, firing quite a few missiles focusing on the container storage space on the port and setting some on fire.
Images posted by SANA confirmed flames and smoke within the container space and a fire truck on the scene.
Ismail Hilal, the governor of Latakia, mentioned fire fighters had put out the flames and have been working to chill the location, SANA reported. State tv mentioned 5 explosions rocked town.
Last month, Syrian state media reported 4 Israeli assaults.
Latakia metropolis, on Syria’s Mediterranean coast, is its major port. Russia, which has been Assad’s strongest ally through the conflict, operates an air base some 20km (12 miles) away at Hmeimim in Latakia province. – Reuters
