US regulators on Wednesday stripped Chinese state-owned Pacific Networks of its telecommunications license, the most recent blow within the simmering confrontation between Beijing and Washington.
Washington had beforehand revoked the permits of China Telecom and China Unicom, and the Federal Communications Commission has now given 60 days to Pacific and its subsidiary ComNet to chop service.
“The firms’ possession and management by the Chinese authorities increase vital nationwide safety and regulation enforcement dangers,” the FCC stated in an announcement, including Beijing may monitor or disrupt US communications.
ComNet didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark.
The revocation of Pacific’s working authority comes as US President Joe Biden has pressed forward with a method of confronting China broadly according to that of his predecessor Donald Trump, whose method despatched tensions hovering.
